Edge Of The World

So here I am again • Where the river gets deep and the sun comes down • Where the river is warm and you drink or drown • I’m thinking, I’m thinking of how I died but here I am again

I’m not what I once was • When the river got wild and the snow came white • When the river was quick with the seed of light • I’m closer, I’m closer to what I am but not what I once was

Breathe in, breathe hard • The river speaks to the palace guard • There then, here now • With this gift I thee endow • Soldiers bright and flags unfurled • Here at the edge of the world • I’m looking at an ocean • Here at the edge

So maybe I was right • And the river is true where the treasure lies • If the river is tame there can be no prize • I’m thinking, I’m thinking of what I lost but maybe I was right

Reap long, sleep late • The river knocks at the castle gate • There when, where now • With this time I thee endow • Edges gilt and handles pearled • Here at the edge of the world • I’m looking at an ocean • Here at the edge

I’m standing by the door • And the river comes in when I turn the key • With the river I go when it carries me • Even over the edge of the world

Breathe in, breathe well • The river sings with the chapel bell • There, there, rest now • With this dream I thee endow • Careful hands and gentle girl • Here at the edge of the world • I’m looking at an ocean • Here at the edge

Here at the edge of the world

It’s obvious that when the apocalypse comes, I will be one of the weak people. I will have no spin kicks with which to defend myself. I will have only the magic of my words and my understanding to protect me. I will be meat for the beast. (Unless I can engage him in conversation.) And I am fine with that. If my death at monstrous hands becomes imminent, I hope I can meet it in a lounge chair, sipping on a gin martini.
